mystery surrounds the Marquette sinking as it occurred on a calm evening in 1903. the 22 year old steam ship was carrying iron ore when she gradually settled into her final resting place 63m/210ft below. the entire crew of 17 was able to safely escape by rowing lifeboats to Michigan Island.
